Interview etiquette (part 2) -For the candidate

1) Maintain eye contact

Hold eye contact is consistent intervals with your interviewer. Avoid looking here and there. Eye contact shows interest and lets the interviewer know that your paying attention. This also shows that you are being open and honest. Avoid lying or fake scenarios, this will save you trouble later.


2) Stay calm

Avoid being nervous during your interview. Although, this may be easier said than done. Focus your confidence and energy into giving your best performance, because unfortunately, there are no second chances. Sit straight in order to achieve the desired effect. It is essential to have the right attitude because it sets you apart from the rest.


3) General interview etiquette

Ensure that your cellphone is on ‘silent’ during your interview, it is considered an offence if you cellphone rings during your session. Avoid chewing gum. Have your resume and all relevant documents present with you in a proper folder. Avoid the use of slang, oneliners and making jokes with your interviewer. Once you have completed your interview, ensure that you thank your interviewer for their time and for the opportunity.
