Job interviews are an important part of the selection and hiring process. It is the first face-to-face interaction between the organisation and the potential candidates. As a potential candidate it is important to display the proper etiquette and showcase your skills that will show the employer that you’re an asset. Here are some tips!
1) Be present well in advance before your scheduled interview time
Being present before time is an absolute must! Leave home earlier taking traffic, route diversions and other obstacles into consideration. If you are not using your own vehicle, ensure you book your cab or ask a friend/family member to drop you off at the exact venue. Avoid using public transportation to avoid delays. Being early to your interview shows the employer your dedication and willingness to comply.
2) Take pride in your appearance
Dressing in a professional and conservative manner will leave an everlasting first impression. For men, coordinate a light colour shirt with dark, fitted trousers. Ensure your shoes are neat and polished. Your hair should be cut very neatly and apply a gentle perfume. It is essential to smell good. For women, ensure that you are not wearing anything revealing or loud. Ensure that your hair is neat and in good condition. Pair your look with a blazer and modest heels. And of course, a gentle perfume.
3) Enter the room with confidence
Enter the room with a warm smile and give the interviewer a firm handshake. A good handshake, shows confidence, and willingness to take challenges. However, do not hand shakes if the interviewer is female. Do not be seated until you are told to.
