A positive mindset isn’t only about filtering your thoughts and being in touch with your feelings – it is being able to uphold the new attitude that you’ve fought so hard to achieve. Remember the “mind, body and soul” approach we spoke about in part 1? This is where it comes in handy. Because having a positive mindset, does include physical health benefits. Because our mind controls the way our body functions, having a good, strong mindset enables us to have a strong body as well. I cannot place enough emphasis on the phrase, “you are what you think”.
Benefits of a positive mindset:
Happiness: A positive and strong mindset is known to be linked to happiness. Happiness is an emotional state of mind that is dependant on how you feel on the inside – not on how external factors factors affect you. When your mindset changes, it greatly increases your interal level of happiness, which will soon be evident externally. A prosperous soul, leads to a properous life.
Self-confidence: Your new positive mindset and happiness will soon affect how you feel about yourself as an individual and will benefit your self-confidence. When you are confident in yourself, it allows you to take on new adventures and experience new things. Feeling better about yourself also allows you to interact with others and have a better quality of life.
Stronger immune system: People with a positive mindset are proven to be energetic, healthy and lively. A good mindset also improves your overall health and helps your body to bounce back faster when you fall ill.
Increased focus: Positive thinking results in you achieving more emotional balance and allows your brain to carry out functions properly. This helps you to focus better and enables you to make better decisions in more challenging situations.
Health benefits of a positive mindset:
Increased life span
Lower rates of depression
Greater resistance to illnesses
Better cardiovascular health and reduced risk of death by cardiovascular disease and stroke
Reduced risk of death by cancer
Reduced risk of death by respiratory conditions
Reduced risk of death by infections
Better coping skills during times of hardships and stress
Having a positive mindset benfits your quality of life in so many ways. Remember your thoughts affect your actions. In this time of uncertainty, focus on the good and reject negative thoughts the moment they enter your mind. You are in control of your thoughts and your life. Building a new mindset doesn’t happen overnight and requires consistency even when it becomes exceedingly difficult. When you start to feel sad or insecure about yourself or more conscience about what people say and your mind starts running a million and one scenarios, ask yourself,”who said that?” You won’t have an answer for yourself and the negative thought will dissapper out of your mind.
Be selective with your energy and focus on nourshing yourself and being the person you were always meant to be. Let today be your day one to start working on your brand new mindset. Prioritize your needs and your peace and always remember that you are the most important person in your life and you derserve to treat yourself that way.
